J-Scent
ジェイセントA Japanese fragrance house built around wa no kaori — scents drawn from everyday Japanese life. Roasted green tea, sumo wrestler hair oil, paper soap, rakugan sweets. Because parent company LUZ manufactures in-house, J-Scent can pursue subjects most brands would not attempt. Every eau de parfum comes in the same 50 mL bottle at the same price, so the choice rests entirely on the scent.

Comme des Garçons
コム デ ギャルソンThe fragrance line of Comme des Garçons, the fashion house Rei Kawakubo leads from Tokyo. Its first perfume appeared in 1994. The house often breaks with convention: some works, such as Odeur 71, are built so that head and base notes cannot be separated at all.

KITOWA
キトワJapan's first fragrance maison, launched in 2018 by Nippon Kodo, an incense house with 450 years of history. Every scent is built on natural oils from Japanese timber — hinoki from Mie, hiba from Aomori, kusunoki from Yakushima — layered with fine perfumery materials. The alcohol-free Eau Éclosion line uses a water base, unusual among luxury fragrances.

Issey Miyake
イッセイ ミヤケThe fragrance arm of Issey Miyake’s fashion house, started in 1992. L’Eau d’Issey, released the following year, made water itself the subject of a perfume and did much to establish the aquatic family. The line is now produced by Beauté Prestige International under Puig, built around flankers of L’Eau d’Issey Pour Homme.

SHIRO
シロA Japanese cosmetics house from Sunagawa in Hokkaido, founded in 2009 as LAUREL and renamed SHIRO in 2019. Its fragrances are built around ingredients sourced from specific parts of Japan — sake lees from Kuriyama, gagome kelp from the waters off Hakodate, yuzu from Kito in Tokushima. Everything from formulation to retail is handled in-house, and the factory remains in Hokkaido.
